Paul A. Sieving
In 1980, while a Resident in Ophthalmology at the University of Illinois Eye and Ear Infirmary, I received a Grant-in-Aid to study the early receptor potential in several human hereditary retinal diseases. Like many others, this helped me in establishing my credentials in eye and vision research. This program also creates life-long linkages between giants in ophthalmology and those on the cusp of their careers. I dare say my own career might have taken a different trajectory without early support from FFS.
